About WDBC
What is the .CN country specific domain (ccTLD) name?
.CN is the official unrestricted country specific top level domain name
of China. Chinese Domain Names offer exceptional potential to people who wish
to secure their brand name in one of the fastest growing world markets. China
liberalized their China domain name (.cn) registration requirements so anyone
worldwide may now register and own china domains. Register
your .CN domain name while it's still available.
[Top]
Are .CN domains universally recognized?
Absolutely. Anyone, anywhere, worldwide can reach .CN domain names through
their Web browsers or e-mail programs. DOT-CN has been created under the auspices
of ICANN, Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), and China Internet Network
Information
Center (CNNIC), the CN ccTLD registry. Both second (.CN)
and third level (.com.cn, .net.cn, .org.cn) dot-CN domains are widely recognized
by the Chinese population. Over 800,000 CN domains have already been registered. Check
your .CN domain name.

Why would I want a .CN (China) domain name? What makes .CN
unique?
Any business or organization, located anywhere, can register
.CN domain names under new CN registry policies. DOT-CN offers registrants
the protection of a well-established brand name in a lucrative world marketplace.
Furthermore, .CN puts Chinese customers at ease, providing the security of
dealing with businesses that have a substantial, "localized" Chinese
presence as well as an international one. Lastly, .CN enjoys widespread notoriety
and recognition among the Chinese population. All .CN names (e.g. .cn, .com.cn,
.net.cn and .org.cn) are now available globally; registrants
do not need to be residents of China to take advantage of these addresses. Register
your .CN domain now.

Who can register a .CN domain name?
Any business or organization, worldwide, can register a .CN name under a new
liberalized policy that no longer restricts .CN registrations to Chinese entities. Over 800,000 china domain names have already been registered. Search
for your own dot CN domain name.

What is allowed in a .CN domain registration and what isn't?
.CN names can contain the English-language letters A through Z, and the digits
0 through 9. Hyphens can also be used, but cannot begin or end a domain name.
Spaces and special characters (such as !, $, &, ë,
etc.) are never permitted for any domain name. The minimum length is 2
characters while the maximum length is 63 characters (excluding "http://www" and
TLD extension portions).
At this time, .CN does not support multilingual domain names in foreign character
sets. CN domains are registered in English, the prime language
of global commerce.
[Top]
At what level are .CN domain names registered?
.CN names can be registered at the second (e.g. company.cn) or third level
(e.g. company.com.cn, company.net.cn, company.org.cn) where company is the
name, abbreviation, letters or words for a business, organization, product
or individual. Because DOT-CN domains are available on a "first come, first
served" basis,
WDBC recommends that you register the second level and any available third
level .CN domain
names to protect your intellectual property rights, trademarks or company name/abbreviation
in this Asian Internet zone. Previously, China domains were restricted
to people living in China or companies with a Chinese presence, but now any
international organization or business can register
a Chinese domain name.
[Top]
What are the registration terms for .CN domain names?
.CN country code top level domains (ccTLDs) require a one year minimum initial
registration commitment. At WDBC, you can register your .CN domain for 1, 2,
or 5 year renewable registration terms. COM.CN Global
domains are available
in 2, 4, or 6 year renewable registration terms. Register
your China domain today.
[Top]
How much does it cost to register a .CN domain name?
Each registrar determines its own prices for domain name registrations.
Most charge $50-$60 per year. At WDBC, .CN domain names are
offered for $35.00 per year or less. Prices are annual
subscription service fees. Since domains are registered in real time, full
payment with a credit card is required at time of domain reservation.

How soon can I start using my domain name?
After purchasing a .CN domain or making changes to CN registration information,
the data is submitted to the official .CN registry maintained by NeuLevel and
CCNIC. Once the registry has been updated, the information in their database
is shared with the Internet's zone files worldwide. This sharing process is
called "propagation," because the new information about your domain spreads
or propagates across the Internet. The zone files are propagated frequently,
every day of the year. We cannot control the rate at which the millions of
name servers on the Internet are updated, but generally your domain should
be available within a very short period (usually 24 to 72
hrs). Unlike the .COM or .NET registries, your registration information typically
appears in the .CN whois database within a matter of minutes
after registering a new web address or making a contact or name server change.

Do you accept .CN domain name transfers?
At this time, WDBC does not currently accept .CN domain transfers from other
CN registrars. This feature may be added in the future. We do allow ownership
or registrant transfers to new or existing WDBC customers for free.
[Top]
How do I transfer my .CN domain name?
Domain name transfers fall in one of two categories:
- Registrant Transfer or Name Change — Each Registrar has unique requirements
for making changes to the registrant field of a domain name. WDBC Domain customers
can make these changes by logging into their domain account 24/7. In addition,
you can transfer ownership of a domain name to another WDBC domain name account
for FREE through the current owners domain account. The new owner will need
to sign up for a WDBC account if they do not already have one. Login
or sign up for an account here.
- Registrar-to-Registrar Transfer — Domain names cannot be transferred within the first 60 days of initial registration. Also, DOT-CN domain names scheduled to expire in fewer than 14 days will not be allowed to transfer. These rules are based on the fact that .CN does not have auto-renewal for expired names. Since we are a non-China-based Registrar, registrar transfers in .CN will only be allowed for non-China-based Registrars connecting through NeuLevel's Registry gateway. Domain names registered through China-based registrars cannot be transferred into non-China based registrars, and vice versa.

How can I find out who has a .CN china domain name that
I want?
You can search the .CN registry's public WHOIS at http://ewhois.cnnic.net.cn/ to determine the name and contact information of who registered a given .CN domain name. To determine if a .CN name is available for registration, use our FREE domain registration search.
[Top]
What is the .CN WHOIS?
A tool used to look up records in the .CN domain name space. Each
record within the WHOIS database has a "handle" (a unique identifier), a name, a record type, and various other fields. WHOIS provides a means
to search for domain names using these specific fields. You can search the
.CN registry's public whois at http://ewhois.cnnic.net.cn/.
WDBC's WHOIS can also be consulted to check those domains
in our registrar-level WHOIS database.
[Top]
What are the .CN dispute-resolution policies?
You can review the dispute resolution policy which all licensed .CN registrars
and retail channel partners must abide by at http://www.cnnic.net.cn/ruler/19.shtml.
Currently, there are two CNNIC accredited neutral domain name dispute resolution
institutions: China International Economic Trade Arbitration Center (CIETAC)
and Hong Kong International Arbitration Center (HKIAC). These two institutions
accept .CN and Chinese domain name dispute cases.
